HIGHLANDERS’ midfielder McKinnon Mushore has not reported for duty for over a week, with early indications suggesting he may be pushing for a contract review and seeking payment of outstanding dues.
Mushore was notably absent from the matchday squad when Highlanders faced Herentals a fortnight ago. He travelled to Harare, later informing the club that he was unwell. However, internal investigations by the club are believed to have revealed that Mushore did not consult any medical professionals, casting doubt on his explanation.
His situation is reportedly being closely monitored by an ambitious Harare-based club, which is understood to have a strong interest in acquiring the player.
Mushore remains under contract with Highlanders until December 2026.
Club chief executive officer Kindman Ndlovu declined to provide detailed comment but confirmed that the club is in communication with the player.
“The player has not been part of the squad for our last two matches. Mushore reported that he is unwell. He has not yet returned to duty, but we are engaging him and expect him back in the squad soon,” said Ndlovu.
Head coach Kelvin Kaindu was similarly guarded in his remarks when asked about Mushore’s absence.

“McKinnon is one of our best players. Despite not featuring in the last two matches, I’m confident he should be available soon,” said Kaindu.
Kaindu has already hinted that the club may lose players during the upcoming mid-season transfer window. He also confirmed that Highlanders are tracking several promising young talents with a view to strengthening the squad when the window opens on July 1.
Highlanders currently sit ninth on the Castle Lager Premiership table, with 19 points from 14 matches. They trail unbeaten league leaders MWOS FC by 11 points, with MWOS on 30 points and Simba Bhora in second place with 26.

Bosso’s recent form has raised concerns. They are winless in their last three matches, having suffered a 2–1 defeat to ZPC Kariba, a 1–0 loss to Herentals, and most recently a goalless draw with Dynamos.
When league action resumes, Highlanders face a stern test at Barbourfields Stadium against defending champions Simba Bhora. They will then travel to Mutare for a clash with Manica Diamonds before wrapping up the first round of fixtures with a derby against Chicken Inn.
