MDC activists remain locked up

(29), Friday Matavire (19), Chigwada Tatenda (22), Masenda Benson (22), Archford Musagwa (29), Waison Chapfungamoyo (29), Tendai Katsariya (28), Terrence Peki (30), Nash Ngoroyemoto (25), Elisha Mandizvidza (34), Michael Gondo (31), Simba Murigwa (42), Rodwell Madzivire (30) and Trouble Hasha (40) all of Waterfalls yesterday appeared before Chegutu magistrate Mr Togarepi Zhou.

They were being represented by Mr Tonderai Bhatasara of Mupanga Bhatasara Attorneys who applied for bail on their behalf that was opposed by the State.

The activists are accused of obstructing Constable Mercy Munkombwe (32) from the National Highway Patrol Unit while carrying out her duties along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.

Opposing bail, prosecutor Mr Allen Chifokoyo argued that the 14 were not suitable candidates and their release was likely to cause anarchy in society as a result of their behaviour since they confronted a “helpless’’ police officer who was discharging her duties at a roadblock.
