The MDC-T divisions in Matabeleland region are set to widen with MDC Alliance members in Bulawayo forming committees to prepare for elections, a slap in the face of MDC-T deputy president Dr Thokozani Khupe and her allies opposed to the coalition.
Dr Khupe and some MDC-T leaders from Matabeleland are opposed to the coalition saying the party can go it alone and win the region.
Despite their concerns, the MDC Alliance’s Bulawayo province on Tuesday met to forge ahead with preparations for next year’s polls.
In a statement after the meeting, the alliance’s provincial spokesperson Mr Edwin Ndlovu declared that no amount of opposition will stop their programmes.
“As part of the alliance’s strategic framework, the provincial alliance members formed committees around strategic areas namely, provincial coordinating, elections, mobilising and and information and publicity committees, which are expected to strategise around mobilising, voter registration and voter education among other tasks. As the alliance gets into full throttle campaign mode, it is expected that the formation of these committees will ensure massive participation in next year’s election,” he said.
“Whilst doomsayers and detractors are busy majoring on minors and foretelling fake prophecies about the MDC Alliance, we are busy with the real task at hand, which is to bring political and economic change to the suffering Zimbabwean masses.”
Mr Ndlovu said despite opposition, there is no going back on the MDC Alliance.
Dr Khupe, the party’s national chairman Mr Lovemore Moyo and suspended national organising secretary Mr Abednico Bhebhe have demanded audience with MDC-T president Mr Morgan Tsvangirai in a bid to reverse the political arrangement with other opposition parties.
