MDC-Alliance councillor for Ward 12 in Mangwe District, Peter Ndlovu has hailed President Mnangagwa’s leadership for introducing the Community Resilience Bakeries Programme.

The programme, introduced by the Government last year, seeks to improve the supply of bread at affordable prices and curb food shortage in rural areas.

It is also targeted at availing opportunities for economic empowerment of rural women and youths who will own and operate the bakeries while creating employment for others.  The project is starting in Macingwane village in a fortnight .

Addressing villagers at Macingwane Hall, Clr Ndlovu said he will mobilise villagers to take part in the programme and benefit from it.

“This is a good move from the Government and as the councillor for this ward I will ensure that the villagers participate and fully utilise this opportunity.

“The program could not have come at a better time as the prices of goods are out of reach of many,” said Clr Ndlovu.

Speaking at the same event, Zanu-PF Bulilima West legislator Cde Dingumuzi Phuthi said villagers will be trained on how to bake and market their produce.

“As we all know that bread prices in the country have been going up in ways that have led many not to afford it, the Government has moved in to address the issue.

“On a date that is favourable to every villager who wants to partake in the program probably in two weeks’ time, we are going to have a training programme on what to bake and how to bake,” said Cde Phuthi.

He said the two-day training will also cover how to market their produce in order to sustain their day to day needs.

He urged the community to work closely together in ensuring that the program benefits all villagers.

“This is an initiative which should not go to waste but be utilised by the community as a whole through forming groups which will partake in the programme.

“Some can bake scones, bread among other products and as your leader I will be hands-on to ensure that you get the market to sell your products,” said Cde Phuthi.-@mthabisi_mthire.
