‘MDC-T are political cowards’

Sunday Mail Reporter

Zanu-PF Secretary for Information, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, has branded MDC-T a “bunch of political cowards”.

The statement follows the opposition’s boycott of House of Assembly by-elections in Mt Darwin West and Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe constituencies next Friday.

Zanu-PF candidates Cde Barnwell Seremwe (Mt Darwin West) and Cde Auxilia Mnangagwa (Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe) are largely tipped to win the polls against opponents from small political parties the National Constitutional Assembly, Transform Zimbabwe, Good People’s Movement Party and Freedom Front of Zimbabwe.

MDC-T has not fielded candidates, saying it wants “electoral reforms” — even though the polls are being held under the exact same conditions as those of the 2013 harmonised polls in which the party participated and was drubbed by Zanu-PF.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail yesterday, Ambassador Khaya Moyo said: “The MDC has finally come out with its true colours of deceit regarding the voters’ roll.

“They have shown that they are a bunch of political cowards. First we were told the MDC would not participate in any election without being supplied with the voters’ roll by ZEC.

“ZEC has supplied them with the voters’ roll that they have been yearning for but having been supplied with the voters roll, they are now playing games.

“They confirm receipt of the said voters roll but because they are scared of dismally losing the forthcoming by-elections, the MDC is now, without shame trying to change its spots.”

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said MDC-T was plagued by lack of ideas and failure to craft political strategies in the aftermath of the 2013 election defeat.

Next Friday’s by-elections set the tone for other polls in Wedza North on May 15 as well as Headlands and Hurungwe West on June 10.
