AN MDC-T member from Ward 13 in Bulawayo has appeared in court on allegations of assaulting a fellow party member accusing him of supporting independent candidate, Mr Samuel Sandla Khumalo. Nkosana Mlotshwa (38), of 61089 in Pelandaba was not asked to plead to assault when he appeared before Mr Willard Maphios Moyo at the Western Commonage Magistrates Court on Friday.
The court is waiting for a medical report for Mr Eleck Siziba (59), of 59729/2 Iminyela Flats who sustained a swollen face following the assault.
Mlotshwa was remanded in custody to tomorrow.
Allegations as presented by Ms Fiona Ncube are that MDC-T Ward 13 members held a meeting at House Number 59701/2 Iminyela on Wednesday last week where the issue of members who were defecting to join independent candidates was discussed.
It is alleged that after the meeting, Mr Siziba complained to the district chairman, Mr Edward Simela as his name
was included on the list of defectors who had joined Mr Khumalo.
The list of defectors had reportedly been sent to the party’s provincial command centre.
Mlotshwa allegedly overheard Mr Siziba complaining and he confronted him asking why he was challenging the party’s decision.
Mlotshwa allegedly grabbed Mr Siziba by the collar and assaulted him once on the forehead and once on the cheek with a fist.
Mr Siziba sustained a swollen cheek and forehead and a report was made to the police leading to Mlotshwa’s arrest.
Mr Khumalo left the party to contest as an independent for the Pelandaba-Mpopoma Constituency after losing the primary elections to Mr Bekithemba Nyathi. He claims the elections were rigged.
