MDC-T official in court for primary election violence

Chitungwiza, allegedly assaulted Precious Muganda (22), during the party’s primary elections.
Mutambo reportedly assaulted two other supporters who tried to restrain him during the argument.

Prosecutor Ms Ntombikayise Nleya asked the court to defer the matter citing the non-availability of the presiding magistrate Mrs Jessy Kufa, who was attending other pressing commitments elsewhere.

He appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini, who remanded him in custody to July 1 for trial.
The incident occurred on June 15, at around 1pm, at house number 34186 Unit G during the MDC-T’s primary elections in Chitungwiza.

Mutambo accused Muganda of forging names of people on the electoral college.
Muganda denied the allegations and an argument ensued, which resulted in Mutambo slapping her in the face.

During the melee, Mutambo was restrained by the party’s organising secretary of the same ward, one Blessing Utete.
In a fit of rage, it is alleged Mutambo punched Utete, accusing him of being part of the team which tampered with the electoral college to bar his supporters from voting.

It is further alleged that Obert Matsika, an election agent of one Onisimo Makururu, was also assaulted by Mutambo for restraining him from harassing fellow supporters.
