MDC-T treasurer for Gutu Central Samuel Mawere has been arrested on allegations of raping his 13-year-old niece. Mawere appeared before Gutu magistrate last Friday charged with rape.
The divorcee was not asked to plead when he was arraigned before magistrate Mr Nyasha Vitorini.
He was remanded in custody to November 24.
Prosecutor Ms Agatha Gabriel alleged that Mawere committed the offence on October 31 at his house at Mpandawana Growth Point where he stayed with the teenager.
It is alleged that Mawere ordered the girl to clean his bedroom.
The court further alleged that he raped the girl as she was cleaning the room.
Mawere allegedly threatened the girl not to report the matter to anyone.
The complainant later narrated her ordeal to her teacher leading to Mawere’s arrest.
