A cross section of MDC-T supporters in Harare have paid tribute to the party’s president Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, who succumbed to cancer of the colon in a hospital in South Africa on Wednesday.

The supporters, in their party regalia, began gathering at the party’s Harvest House this morning where they sang and chanted slogans.

Some of the members could later be seen in the afternoon driving in their vehicles whilst honking, whistling and cheering in apparent celebration of the life of the late trade unionist.

The chants tipeiwo nguva yekuchema gamba redu (give us time to mourn our hero) became the popular song with the supporters.

One of the supports Pastor Edward Musara said he viewed Mr Tsvangirai as an iconic leader.

“I feel sad over the death of Mr Tsvangirai. He is our hero,” said Pastor Musara pledging to join a night vigil at the MDC-T headquarters.

Another supporter, Gamuchirai Tembo from Kuwadzana felt Mr Tsvangirai deserved a befitting honour.

“I think this man changed the Zimbabwean story and his death has created a big gap difficult to fill in the Zimbabwean politics,” he said.

Mr Tsvangirai is founding father of the labour union backed Movement for Democratic Change which became a tussle ground for power that led to numerous splits.
