MDC-T has suspended Harare councillor, Oddrey Sydney Chirombe of Ward 33, Budiriro following allegations that he attempted to sodomise a Nyaradzo bus driver he was sharing a room with in a house boat in Kariba at the weekend. In a statement, the party said it did not tolerate immoral behaviour on the part of its officials.
“The councilor will be formally charged by the party and will be brought before the party’s disciplinary committee for hearing soon,” said MDC-T.
Police confirmed that the report was received at ZRP Kariba in which MDC-T party’s Harare Budiriro Ward 33 councillor was suspected to have indecently assaulted a bus driver he was sharing a room with in Kariba.
Police said they were investigating the circumstances in which Chirombe is alleged to have indecently assaulted Richard Nyakabawu, while Harare councillors were on a workshop retreat in Kariba from February 21-23 this year.
Sources alleged that at around 2am on Saturday, Chirombe and the driver in question were in their boat room when he gently tapped the driver on his chest before leaving the room for a few minutes.
Upon his return he allegedly pounced on the driver and attempted to sodomise him. The driver, it is alleged, resisted and an altercation ensued between the pair on the deck with the driver assaulting Chirombe. Other councillors restrained the angry driver from further assaulting Chirombe. It is alleged that Chirombe disappeared after learning that someone had phoned the police.
