MDC-T threatens violence against police, army

THE opposition MDC-T youth assembly has threatened to unleash violence against Zanu-PF, police and the army ahead of next year’s hamornised elections, claiming they were fully equipped to deal with the security forces.

Speaking at a Press conference in Gweru on Friday, MDC-T youth assembly chairperson Mr Happymore Chidziva, aptly nicknamed “Cde Bvondo”, said the opposition party’s youths led by his executive would fight police and the army if the security forces attempt to stop disrupt their campaigns.

Mr Chidziva said MDC-T was resuming its violent protests against Government and Zanu-PF code named #Tajamuka, that saw its rowdy youths burning police and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation vehicles in Harare last year.

“What I want to tell people is that we are going ahead with our protests beginning this month. Also this forthcoming election we are saying we won’t go into it like people holding eggs, no one has monopoly over violence and as MDC-T we are capable of violence. Hakuna anotadza kuiita violence. Hatisi kuzoenda takabata mazai (no one is incapable of violence). We are not going to disclose how we are going to do that but be rest assured that we will contain them,” he said.

His statement, however, comes in the wake of the return of self-proclaimed pastor Evan Mawarire of the shadowy #ThisFlag campaign and his subsequent arrest.

Meanwhile, the MDC-T youth assembly also took a swipe at the party’s vice-president Ms Thokozani Khupe over her utterances when she was quoted pouring cold water over the proposed coalition with other opposition political parties.

MDC-T Youth assembly secretary-general Mr Lovemore Chinoputsa said Ms Khupe’s utterances were an expression of her own opinion which was not the position of the party.

Mr Chinoputsa said the party president Mr Morgan Tsvangirai would solely spearhead the coalition to contest in next year’s elections.

“The national council has given our president the mandate to make the decisions on behalf of the party as far as the coalition is concerned. We are going to support any decision he is going to take. As a democratic party anyone has a right to hold opinion and vice-president Khupe expressed her opinion which is not the position of the party,” he said.
