MDC-T to discipline rowdy members

Addressing journalists after the party’s national executive meeting yesterday, MDC-T spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora, said heavy penalties will be imposed on all members found guilty.

“The party resolved that all MDC members and officials who were implicated in violence should be brought before the national disciplinary committee without regard to their status within the party.

“MDC’s constitution is clear on violence. Severe penalties will be imposed but as you would know the extent of involvement of the person is of great consideration,” he said.

Mr Mwonzora could not divulge the names of those who would be charged saying they needed to inform them first.
Ugly scenes of violence rocked MDC-T’s Bulawayo province where Mr Golden Moyo and Mr Matson Hlalo battled for the party’s provincial chairmanship.
However, Mr Mwonzora claimed that Zanu-PF was also behind some incidences of violence that affected MDC-T. He said the meeting received a report tabled by the party’s secretary general Mr Tendai Biti on the outcome of the Sadc summit held in Angola recently.
