THE MDC-T yesterday came under fire from an academic for failing to use its influence in the inclusive Government to deal with issues they were now raising as a basis to allege that the just ended harmonised elections were not credible. The academic said the party claimed that the voters’ roll was not up to scratch, yet it had a whole minister seconded by the party who should have addressed their concerns.
University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer Mr Shakespear Hamauswa said the MDC-T was not clear on what it intends to do when it said it was abandoning the legal route and pursue the political path in its quest to have the July 31 2013 quashed.
He said this while delivering a paper during a roundtable discussion on “Zimbabwe’s Post Election Challenge,” organised by the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute, a non-governmental organisation.
“The MDC-T wants to take the political route. It is not clear what route they want to take if they failed to do it in the inclusive Government. They failed to do it with the voters’ roll. They also dominated in the Parliament Portfolio Committee of Home Affairs. It was chaired by Paul Madzore (Glen View South MDC-T MP,” said Mr Hamauswa. “There is now need to focus on Team Zimbabwe and not Team Zanu-PF or Team MDC-T.”
MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has raised concern on the election in the wake of a crushing defeat he suffered at the hands of Zanu-PF President and First Secretary President Mugabe in the presidential election.
