The Zanu-PF Presidium will come up with a position on how the party will fill the Vice-President’s post which fell vacant after the death of Cde John Landa Nkomo early this year. The Presidium is composed of President Mugabe (who is the party’s President and First Secretary), Vice-President Joyce Mujuru (who is the Zanu-PF Vice-President and Second Secretary) and party National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo.

Party spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo yesterday told The Herald that the party’s top leadership would decide on when all the vacancies in the Politburo would be filled.

“That (appointment of Vice-President) is going to be decided by the Presidium and it usually happens at Congress,” said Cde Gumbo.

“There are a number of vacancies in the Politburo that are yet to be filled. Usually, the President wants those things to be done at Congress. We stand guided by the Presidium.”

He said it was up to the trio to either call for a mini-Congress to effect the appointments or wait for the Congress next year.
Following the death of first Vice-President Dr Joshua Nkomo in July 1999, he was replaced by the late Vice-President Dr Joseph Msika at the party Congress in December of the same year.

After Cde Msika died in August 2009, he was replaced by Cde John Nkomo at the party Congress in December of the same year again.
