MDC-T violence rages on

House yesterday ahead of today’s national council meeting.
The meeting is expected to confirm members of the national executive.
It is also expected to sort out matters arising from the party’s congress held in Bulawayo last month.

Mr Tshabangu, together with other party provincial chairpersons, was being accused of opposing Mr Tsvangirai’s proposal to bring back 15 members into the national executive.
The members lost elections at the party’s congress.
According to Harvest House sources, Mr Tshabangu wrote a letter that was signed by other provincial chairpersons challenging Mr Tsvangirai’s proposal, which they said was unconstitutional.

The MDC-T constitution stipulates that the Standing Committee that Mr Tsvangirai chairs should only recommend seven members to sit in the national executive.
Mr Tsvangirai seeks to inflate the number to 15.

Mr Tshabangu played down the incident. “There is nothing like that and I really don’t know where that information is coming from,” he said.
On Mr Tsvangirai’s proposal, Mr Tshabangu said: “We are actually in support of the recommendations of the Standing Committee. That is the position we are going to take.”

The Herald was, however, reliably informed that Mr Tshabangu was dragged to the back door of the party’s regalia shop at Harvest House where he was assaulted.
It is understood that Mr Tshabangu had also proposed that the party’s provincial chairpersons should sit in the national executive as ex-officio members.

Those that lost include Engineer Elias Mudzuri, Professor Eliphas Mukono-weshuro, Dr Henry Madzorera, Ms Thabitha Khumalo, Mr Sam Sipepa Nkomo, Ms Concelia Chinanzvavana and Mr Amos Chibaya.
