‘MDCs stalling GPA reforms’

in the inclusive Government, Zanu-PF national chairman, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said yesterday.

Speaking at a rally in Makokoba, which doubled as commemorations to mark the 13th anniversary of the death of Vice-President Joshua Nkomo, Cde Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF was no longer comfortable “swimming in the same pool with crocodiles” and wanted the inclusive Government to come to an end.

Cde Khaya Moyo said the drafting of the new constitution was taking long because the two MDC formations were enjoying the benefits of being in the inclusive Government, albeit at the expense of the majority of Zimbabweans.

The new constitution should pave way for elections and President Mugabe has maintained that elections should be held this year.

Cde Khaya Moyo said the two MDC factions were sellouts who should not be allowed to rule the country as they were an extension of Western countries.

“When the inclusive Government was formed, we indicated that we wanted elections to be held within 36 months and they wanted 12 months. We finally settled for 24 months on the advice of the facilitator but four years down the line, they no longer want elections because they are enjoying as members of the inclusive Government,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

He said Zanu-PF wanted to do away with the inclusive Government because it had failed to function.

“This Government called inclusive Government is Inclusive Nonsense, we cannot continue swimming with a crocodile. They want to buy time so that they consult their masters on how to move ahead, and we will not allow that,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

He said Zanu-PF had given Copac until next week to complete the drafting of the new constitution to pave way for a referendum. Cde Khaya Moyo said in the event of Copac failing to meet the deadline, the party would call for elections without the new constitution.

“The constitution-writing process is taking long to complete because the people involved are enjoying the allowances. If the process is not finished by next week, then we are going for elections without the new constitution. We make decisions as a sovereign country and we are not an extension of Britain like they wish us to be. If the constitution is complete by next week then fine we can go for the referendum and then elections because we do not want to work with sellouts,” he said.

Cde Khaya Moyo said recent engagements between revolutionary parties in Africa had resolved that “Western” sponsored parties should not be allowed to hoodwink people.

He said parties like the two MDC factions were mafikizolos who knew nothing about the liberation struggle.

On the Joshua Nkomo anniversary, Cde Khaya Moyo Zimbabweans should uphold the legacy of peace and unity left behind by the former nationalist leader when he signed the historic Unity Accord.

The Unity Accord was signed by Dr Nkomo and President Mugabe on behalf of their parties, PF-Zapu and Zanu-PF on 22 December 1987.

He described Dr Nkomo as a brave nationalist who fought to liberate as well as empower Zimbabweans.

“Umdala wethu wayengumfula wokuthula, he did not want people to fight as evidenced by the signing of the Unity Accord. He left us a rich legacy that we should bequeath to future generations,” he said.

Cde Khaya Moyo said land redistribution, Indigenisation and Empowerment were irreversible.

“What I am trying to tell you here is that let us live in peace and work hard in honour of Umdala Wethu who said we should use our land to empower ourselves.

“We know you made a mistake by voting for people who do not have your welfare at heart but am hopeful this time around you will get it right,” he said.

Addressing the same gathering, Matabeleland South provincial Governor Angeline Masuku said the empowerment programmes were irreversible and called on the people of Makokoba to rally behind their ” tried and tested” leaders.

“Zanu-PF is national party born out of two liberation movements and it is the only party representing the interests of Zimbabweans,” she said.

Cde Masuku urged people to register as voters.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo youth chairman, Cde Butho Gatsi, said as youths they were elated by the legacy left behind by Dr Nkomo.

“We are happy that today we are empowered because of Dr Nkomo. We wish he could have lived longer to witness this. We are here to celebrate his life and his legacy, in the morning some of our members were barred from attending another gathering but we decided to have our own because we do not want violence,” he said.

Also present were Politburo Members Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube and Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Absalom Sikhosana as well as

Acting Bulawayo Provincial chairman Cde Killian Sibanda.
