Mechanic steals car he was fixing

A CHITUNGWIZA mechanic is on the run after reportedly stealing a car and radio equipment.

The suspect is only known as George (Baba Ano) and he used to work at Charles Auto.

Company owner, Charles Jonas, said George was allowed to go home with Trevor Simoyi’s car to fix the vehicle’s gearbox.

“We gave him the car to fix the gearbox since he was working from home, and he was expected to bring it back after four days.

“We only gave him money to buy oils and fuel, and agreed to pay him for the repairs only after he returned the car,” said Jonas.

He said when he tried to call George, after four days to collect the car, he was not reachable.

“We visited his homestead, but we found no one.

“He also disappeared with company radio equipment worth US$1 000,” he said.

Simoyi said he reported the theft to the police.

“We reported the case at Chitungwiza Police Station under RRB SZ54924 G-10.

“The police are still looking for him,” he said.
