Medical doctor disowns affidavit

Dr Munyaradzi Kereke’s driver.

Dr Johannes Marisa yesterday said the medical affidavit was prepared “embarrassingly” by his brother-in-law.
Phillip Dendere (47) and George Nyahuye (36) who are charged with assaulting Dr Kereke’s driver Privilege Maturure are on trial before Harare magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini.

Prosecutor Mr Liberty Gono submitted that Dr Marisa, who is alleged to have prepared the affidavit in question, had disowned the document. The document was also being disputed by Advocate Linos Mazonde who is representing the pair.
“And to add to that the State has now managed to identify the actual person who compiled the report that is Jacob Chiweshe who is currently assisting police with investigations in this matter,” he said before calling the doctor to the witness stand.

Dr Marisa in his evidence in chief said he was based full time in Kuwadzana after having left Parirenyatwa in 2008. He said he has never gone to Parirenyatwa since then arguing that he was busy at his surgery.

He said he was surprised by the degree of forgery, which he saw on the medical affidavit in question.
Asked by Mr Gono if he knew Chiweshe he said: “I know him in two ways, he is a State registered nurse based at Parirenyatwa and he is embarrassingly my brother-in-law.”

He said medical reports were not issued on anyone’s behalf.
