NEW: Substandard medical laboratories face closure

AUTHORITIES say a nationwide crackdown on medical laboratories that do not meet minimum standards and regulations is imminent, with non-compliant facilities facing closure.

Speaking during a media familiarisation meeting in Harare, Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe Registrar Ms Agnes Chigodora said the council will partner with the Ministry of Health and Child Care to crack down on bogus medical outlets across the country.

“We are closing all bogus laboratories. Right now we are moving around these institutions making sure that they meet the minimum standards required,” she said.

“Auditors have been trained and they are going around laboratories to assess compliance.”
