The course, which will be conducted by the Zimbabwe Sports Medicine Committee, will have former national team coach, Edward Chagonda, as the facilitator. Some of the subjects to be covered during the course include the role of the team doctor, the physiotherapist, the dynamics of sports nutrition, field management of injuries, prevention of injuries and how to deal with career-threatening cases.
PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele said it was important for the football medical personnel to get such refresher courses since they need to keep abreast with the changing trends in their field of speciality.
Ndebele commended the Zimbabwe Sports Medicine Committee for supporting their efforts and said football players needed special attention since their livelihood depends on the game.
“The PSL is proud to be associated with Zimbabwe Sports Medicine Committee in the development of the game. We realise the clubs spend a lot of money on their human resources.
“There is need to take care of the health of the players. Football has seen death of players on the field of play.
“There is need for our football clubs to have qualified doctors at all training and football matches,” said Ndebele.
The course comes a month after a similar course was held to equip coaches from the 16 clubs with modern football coaching techniques.
The training was conducted by German expert Erich Rutemmoeller. The new season is set to begin next week.
