JIT music has new ambassadors in the form of Sharon “Chivara” Dube and Daniel Ngwenya a.k.a DeBango.
Jit (also known as jiti, jit-jive and the Harare beat) is a style of popular Zimbabwean dance music. It features a swift rhythm played on drums and accompanied by a guitar. Jit evolved out of many diverse influences, including domestic chimurenga, Congolese rumba and Tanzanian guitar styles.

Thanks to their debut single Dorofiya, the talented duo has caught the attention of the entertainment industry.

The production skills of Gweru-based musician, Legion, a jit music advocate, made sure the song, which was released last month, is a hit.

Speaking to Chronicle Showbiz, Chivara said they are driven by passion and the need to advise people on various social issues.

“We joined the music bandwagon last year and personally as a female artiste, I wanted to try something new that many women do not uptake which is jit music.

“DeBango supported me in this and we started out as a duo where we have managed to release one track titled Dorofiya,” said Chivara.

Chivara said the track Dorofiya encourages family members and spouses to always be in good relations in order to avoid complications.

“The track is an edutainment one that gives advice to husbands, wives and relatives that it is advisable in times of the pandemic that we keep on sticking together and not be troublesome or ukuhlupha njenge Dorofiya literally.

“We also have a track that is under post production where Legion is doing final touches and we will it to be a hit that will usher people to a good festive season of dance,” said Chivara. — @mthabisi_mthire
