Meet Sa Jakhobe: The teacher turning TikTok into gold

TAKUDZWA Gladman Ncube, better known as Sa Jakhobe, is not just another TikTok star — he’s a mathematics teacher, storyteller, and rising digital comedian putting rural Zimbabwe on the social media map.

Hailing from Plumtree under Chief Madlambuzi in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South, Ncube’s journey began in humble surroundings. He did his primary schooling locally before moving to Madlambuzi Secondary School and later completing A-levels at St Bernard’s Catholic School in Pumula South.

Despite his online fame, he keeps it real. “I’m just a young but old gentleman, a rural educator passionate about maths,” he says.

His comedy journey started in April 2025, purely for laughs.

“I was just doing it for fun, to make myself laugh. Life gets heavy — people face depression, money issues, marriage struggles, and family problems. I realised at the end of the day, people need to laugh. I thought I could play a role in that,” he said.

What started as a personal escape has exploded into a digital empire. Sa Jakhobe boasts 78 000 followers on TikTok, over 110 000 on Facebook, and an extra 40 000 on another account. His YouTube channel is steadily growing as he looks to expand further.

His skits are mostly indoors, reflecting his shy nature, and centre on everyday relatable experiences. “I create anything, as long as it’s comedy. I prefer indoor skits; street theatre isn’t my thing,” he said.

One fan-favourite skit has him portraying Moses parting the river, earning him the playful nickname “Moses” among followers.

The rise hasn’t been smooth. Ncube admits financial struggles and sceptical friends and family initially made it tough.

“At first, my family said my content was embarrassing. Now, they watch and support everything I do,” he said.

But it’s not just about laughs.

Sa Jakhobe wants to use his platform to spread positivity and support youth education.

“I want to grow my brand beyond TikTok. I’m an educator at heart, so I hope to help learners, whether paying school fees or providing stationery,” he said.

From a rural classroom to screens across Zimbabwe, Ncube is showing that authentic comedy can uplift, inspire, and transform.
