WHEN the airwaves were opened to independent players roughly two years ago, in came a new breed of celebrities in the name of radio personalities.
In the resort town of Victoria Falls, Breeze FM 91,2 is the toast and so names such as Dj Jvan, real name Jonathan Sibanda, are the local heroes.
B-Metro caught up with the disc jockey and filed this report.
Q: Tell us about your show Night Crawlers?
A: It airs from Tuesday to Friday from midnight to 5am. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays we tackle hard-hitting topics that range from social, parenting and relationships issues.
Q: What makes it unique from other shows in other stations with the same focus?
A: Thursdays and Fridays are extremely musical. On Thursdays I mostly play pop music that a?s current, trends doing the rounds a I at times even introduce new tracks released worldwide. So it makes sense that on Friday I play exclusively party anthems since itas the start of the weekend.
Q: What criticism have you faced about your show?
A: Well, people tend to suggest that I should have it on an afternoon slot because is has an energetic presentation style.
Q: What other shows do you have on radio?
A: I also have Chart Rockers Profile a a top 20 countdown show that airs on Saturdays 10am to 2pm.
Q: Tell us more about the show.
A:A Although it is a world chat show it has always been dominated by local music which has been commended by locals, as it has proven to be one of the greatest platforms that showcases local talent from Victoria Falls and surrounding areas.
It is segmented three times between the top 20, artiste interviews and the party starter segment between 1pm and 2pm where Dj Jvan showcases his mixing skills by giving live mixes in studio a dubbed a?Jvan On Firea? mixes.
The show has been applauded for discovering talent that has always been overlooked by national radio stations for example Kendri Dahk, Criss Ozzy, Shelter Matshelela, Smokey P, Obviedo, Buju, Big Boy Hancho and some who have gone national like Obhudi Bespace of Izankaleli fame and Briz Sox who also has a notable fan base from Victoria Falls to Harare.
Q: Your best moments on the show?
A: This yearas chart rockersa highlight was the event dubbed a?Battle of the Number Onesa? held in May at Club Nitrus. The idea was to promote local artistes by having them showcase their talent live on stage. .
