MEIKLES Departmental Store reopens its doors in Gweru tomorrow after a three year hiatus and will reactivate accounts for previous holders.
The reopening of the departmental store will become Meikles Africa Group’s third investment in the Midlands capital within a year following the opening of Pick n Pay and Meikles Mega Market.
Branch manager, Edward Mutinhiri, said everything was in place for the opening of the store.
He said they would first open it to the business community before opening it to the public on Saturday when the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Jason Machaya would be the guest of honour.
“We’re targeting those customers who’re quality conscious and at least those who want value for their money. We’re opening our doors on Friday to the business community where we’ll give them a chance to do their shopping and open their accounts.
“The official opening is on Saturday where Minister Jason Machaya will officiate and thereafter the public will have a feel of the new shop and what it offers,” said Mutinhiri.
He said those who had accounts prior to the shop being closed will have their accounts reactivated.
Mutinhiri said the shop will be focusing on clothing and cosmetics among other products.
He said the opening will be part of a two phased programme, which will see the clothing retail giant completing its second phase next year when it would open an electrical appliance and furniture department.
Recently the group chairman, Thomas Moxon, announced that they had set aside $100 million for expansion and the reopening of the Meikles Departmental Store fits in the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed firm’s plans to spread its wings.
