THE majority of men these days are paying close attention to fashion trends. Women are not fond of competing with men especially when it comes to fashion trends but it’s good to see the brothers looking fine. Over the years men’s fashion has become diverse and you can go for virtually any look. I have observed that men are more about comfort, style and labels when it comes to fashion.
There has been a frenzy on the streets about ‘‘the vintage look’’, although some have taken it too far. People are free to dress as they please but when you are rocking vintage all year round it’s a cause for concern. Seems the lines of vintage are blurred because almost everyone would describe their look as vintage. Does an old checked suit paired with brogue shoes classify as vintage? What about shorts teamed up with a printed shirt? It’s ok though, to try looks other than vintage.
The jeans, t-shirt and sneaker look is simple and fresh. This is a look that every guy can pull off whether young or old.
The young men/teenagers are all about swag and the much older men are about class, this means dressing fashionably and age appropriately. Skinny jeans look good on men if worn properly, however they are not meant to be skin tight as this may look inappropriate and cause difficulties in walking.
A lot of colours have been introduced in men’s fashion, they can wear pink, ginger, rusted copper, grey, burgundy, olive green and pastels. There is a wide variety to choose from. We are approaching the winter season and for most it’s difficult to be stylish during this time without the right attire. Winter does not mean changing your entire wardrobe unless you want to, but adding a few essentials which will add spark to your look. Rather than wearing layers of sweaters which do not match you can wear one heavy coat. I don’t know how and why wearing flops with socks was ever a trend, maybe it does keep some warm during winter but it is tacky. If you are cold, socks with shoes, sneakers or boots would make sense. Flops are for summer which would mean no socks right?
Men can look trendy during winter season by switching up their look and adding the following to their closet:
1 A weather-parka aka bomber jacket
The bomber jacket is THE winter trend. It’s a trend because that is what everyone is wearing during the winter season. It is warm, it keeps the cold out, and it is made of strong material. They have a long life span, you can wear it over and over for years.
2 A suit made in heavier material
For those in the corporate sector who are unable to wear bomber jackets on a daily basis can invest in a suit made in heavier material such as tweed, flannel and wool. The ordinary suit may feel hot in summer but it is ideal for winter. If you are into the formal look these suits are a must have, in order to maintain the sleek look while you keep warm.
3 Winter coats and sweaters
Winter coats come in a wide range of styles from timeless classics like the trench coat to the latest trends such as capes. Not only will it keep you warm but you can make a great statement. Sweaters are a great addition to any outfit and are great for layering. There many different patterns and colours to choose from and they are easy to dress up or dress down. The shawl collar cardigan is definitely one to look out for.
4 Hats and scarves
A good hat will frame your face and will also keep your head warm. Beanies are stylish and are a definite must have.
Use a stylish scarf to bundle up your neck in style in winter. Simple navys and neutrals will do the job just fine. A scarf can add a dash of colour to an outfit and its both warm and elegant. The thicker the scarf the better.
5 Boots
Boots are always trendy in winter no matter how you wear them. Bronx, Timberland or No-name boots will do the trick to keep the cold out. They are warm and can be an advantage during rainy days. It is important to have a reliable pair of boots. Choose boots that are stylish, comfortable and insulated to battle the cold weather.
6 A puffer vest
Vests are great layering pieces. They will look “sharp” layered over a sweater or a flannel buttoned down shirt.
7 Leather jacket
The leather jacket is timeless. It can give the biker, rock star, edgier look. Leather jackets never go out of style. They last for a really long time. What’s good about the leather jacket is you can dress it casually or formally.
All the must haves above will depend on what you like and what your style is but it is wise to get them all so that there is a variety in your look. You can never survive winter without pairs of socks, need I say more? Gloves are optional, some people don’t care much for them, but the leather gloves are classy and stylish.
If you are wondering why this article is about winter in April, it’s because it gives you time to collect and prepare your winter look. When the winter season begins and the prices have gone up you will already have all the essentials to survive winter and look fly too!!!
