A mentally challenged man who was a popular face at Joel Growth Point in Zhombe was found dead in a pool of blood in a suspected ritual murder.

The body of the man whose name was not known, was discovered by passersby at his usual sleeping place with wounds indicating that sharp objects were used.

Police confirmed the incident.

“We received a report of a mentally challenged man who is around 65 years old who was found dead and lying in a pool of blood. Our officers are on the ground as we speak and more details will come as investigations proceed,” said Officer Commanding Kwekwe Police, Chief Superintendent Conrad Mubaiwa.

Sources close to the happenings suspect foul play.

“People are doing scary things these days all in the name of making money. I suspect that the people who killed him could have done so for rituals,” said a source.

The source further said the mentally challenged man did not have any problem with anyone.

“All he did was to pick up rubbish from dustbins. He did not talk to anyone that we might suspect that he might have been killed for violence or something,” said the source.

Police said the body would be taken for postmortem on Friday.
