Merchants still to review seed cotton price

for months.
Buyers will now buy Grade A cotton at 84c/kg, Grade B at 81c/kg, Grade C at 79c/kg and Grade D 77c/kg
A survey by The Herald showed that ginners had not yet started buying the crop at the new price. Staff at most ginneries and buying points said they were waiting for instruction from their head offices.
Staff at Tipperary CBP in Shamva said many farmers delivered their crop after the announcement only to return home with the crop.
There are, however, some few farmers who were desperate for cash, who sold their crop at the old prices.
Mrs Chenesai Musokwa of Bushu said Government should take action against ginners resisting paying the new prices.
“Some of us had sold our crop and it will not be easy for us to get the price adjustments from ginners,” she said.
Cotton growers in different areas are still holding onto their crop waiting for the price review.
