A 25-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to five years in jail for stabbing a complainant with a kitchen knife on the back and on the stomach following a misunderstanding over a jacket.
Khayalethu Thwala of Methodist Village was convicted of attempted murder when he appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate, Mr Pasipanodya Maturure.
He pleaded guilty to offence and was initially sentenced to five years in prison, of which two years were suspended for five years on condition of good behavior.
He will serve an effective three years in prison.
Prosecutor, Ms Christina Manyika, told the court that accused person and the complainant are not related but reside in the same village.
She said that on May 28, 2026 at around 11 AM, the accused person allegedly stabbed Thabani Moyo (30) with a kitchen knife once on the back and once on the stomach following a misunderstanding over the accused person’s jacket.
The court heard that after the accused person committed the crime he ran away to his home to hide.
A police report was made leading to the arrest of accused person, and the complainant was referred to hospital for medical attention, said Ms Manyika.
