FORMER Warriors goalkeeper Petros Mhari says he is enjoying a new lease of life at FC Platinum, where he is now the club’s junior teams’ goalkeepers coach.
Mhari, who is also an ex-Hwange goal minder, hung his gloves at the end of last season, after 19 years of gracing the Zimbabwean football scene with his flexible saves and unwavering leadership.
“I’m grateful to FC Platinum for the role they gave me. This is a great institution, which has given me a new challenge. I’m looking forward to helping our youngsters develop into great goalkeepers and team players,” said Mhari on the side-lines of FC Platinum versus Arenel Movers match, played last weekend at Luveve Stadium.
“When time comes, as footballers, we should gratefully try and give back to this beautiful game. I’m very much committed to my new duty.”
Fondly known as Budro, Mhari’s journey began in 2004, a young boy chasing his dream.
Years of dedication and perseverance saw him rise through the ranks at Shangani Mine FC, Hwange FC and finally, his home for the past decade, FC Platinum.
In Pure Platinum Play colours, Mhari travelled to every breath and length of Africa.
With the platinum miners, he boasts of three consecutive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championships that helped him etch his name in the club’s illustrious history.
Though the gloves are officially hung, Mhari will persistently be remembered as a legend of the game.
His story is one of fortitude, devotion and above all, love for the beautiful game.
As he stepped off the stage, a new chapter awaited him, and its one filled with the promise of guiding and mentoring future generations of footballing stars.
