Mhere steals show in Gutu

More than 7 000 people attended the event that was organised by Allied Bank and the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association to celebrate the homestead that was handed over to Ambuya Mazvivamba Mambeva (81).

The “Favour” hitmaker rose to the occasion at the show where Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria and Tryson Chimbetu were also part of the bill.

Mhere proved to be a favourite among revellers when he performed “Chipostora”, “Vimba NaJehovah” and “Areka” among others. The crowd asked for an encore after he played “Vimba naJehovah” to which many including the elderly performed the “Zora Butter” dance. Mhere dismissed as unfounded allegations that he was once imprisoned together with Blessing Shumba.

“I urge you to ignore rumours doing the rounds that I was once imprisoned together with Blessing Shumba in Mutare. I was never arrested  nor imprisoned,” he said.

Zakaria, who usually spots his trademark goatee beard, was clean shaven. The “Senior Lecturer”, as he is popularly known by his multitude of fans, performed old tunes such as “Mabvi Nemagokora” and “Mabasa” which delighted the crowd. Tryson Chimbetu wowed fans with songs such as “Mombe Mombe”, “Bhora Mberi”, “Ndondo” and “Zimbabwe”.

Guest of honour and Zanu-PF Central Committee member Cde Shuvai Mahofa and Zaha director-general Mr Killer Zivhu witnessed the event.

Cde Mahofa thanked Allied Bank and Zaha for the noble gesture of supporting the poor in the district.
Mr Zivhu said Allied Bank and Zaha will construct four more houses for the less privileged in Gutu District as part of their social responsibility programme.
He said the beneficiaries will be identified by the local leadership.
