Vetkuk vs Mahoota gig lives up to billing

Although Circus did not record a full house like in the case of Professor, the house music loyalists got a treat from the South African-based outfit.

The seasoned DJs did not hit the microphone to perform their songs but instead proved their worth as they rocked the turntables.

Diehard kwaito and house fans were spoiled for choice with hit tracks dating back to Trompies’ “Sweety Lavo” days right until the present popular house anthems “Khona” by Mafikizolo.

Some of the fans who thronged the club for the song of the moment had to wait a bit longer as “Via Orlando” was only dished out in the wee hours of the morning and as expected the crowd went ballistic.

The party carried on and the locals were treated to some house music therapy thanks to the duo’s rich knowledge of the genre.

Local DJs who were supporting the main act proved that they had a lot to learn in terms of hyping the crowd.

They were not constant in livening up the mood in preparation for the main show.
The local acts were seconds away from ruining the show but in the nick of time, Vetkuk and Mahoota managed to save the gig.

They entered the scene with popular Nigerian song “Sawale” by Mr Flavour before they burst into kwaito and house tunes.

The rest of the gig went well and the people partied until five in the morning.
The club’s security, on the other hand, was at loggerheads with patrons during the show as they constantly harassed those who were attempting to access the VIP area.

They not only had poor communication skills but had no regard for the people who had parted with a fortune to be in the VIP arena. Tickets for the show cost between US$15 and US$100.
The show was powered by Ace Entertainment and Johannesburg-based promoters Zero One Ones.
