LAWYER David Mhiribidi has been appointed interim chairman of the Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board.
Mhiribidi’s appointment was made by the Zimbabwe Rugby Union executive committee in consultation with the union’s board. Other positions will be decided after a meeting to be held soon as restrictions put in place to fight the spread of the coronavirus in the country have been lifted.
The rest of the MRFB interim committee is made up former rugby players, David Nash, Gregory Friend, Elliot Mandaza, accountant Maria Muzvidzwa former Sports and Recreation Commission board member Farai Kanyangarara who has also served as the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe president.
As spelt out by ZRU, the specific mandate for the interim committee whose tenure is a maximum of 24 months will be to carry out an audit of the BMRFB finances, restoration of rugby, Hartsfield and all related structures and ensure that there is a functional constitution that is in line with the mother body.
The appointment of the interim structure follows the dissolution of the Craig Change led BMRFB in February after a resolution was made by the ZRU board at their meeting held in Kwekwe. In arriving at the decision to dismantle the BMRFB, the ZRU board noted with concern squabbles that have affected the growth of the sport in the country’s second largest city.
