THE Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF), in partnership with Scènes Australes, has launched a call for applications to its 2025 Gender@Work programme.

Aspiring female event production managers and music executives based across Zimbabwe and other African nations as well as the Indian Ocean have been invited to seize this career-boosting opportunity before the deadline of 22 September 2025.

Designed to empower women in the male-dominated live music sector, the comprehensive programme offers a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

The 2025 edition features two core modules including An intensive in-person Event Production module in Tshwane, South Africa from 26 October to 1 November.

This immersive training covers festival planning, budgeting, stage management, crisis handling, live sound engineering, and stage lighting. Crucially, all participants gain real-world experience interning at the major ACCES music trade show.

An online Music Business module (dates to be confirmed), delving into the music industry value chain, management, branding, marketing, and intellectual property rights will also be conducted.

Beyond the modules, participants benefit from curated networking opportunities, mentoring sessions, and potential further internships with partners across Africa, Reunion Island, and Europe.

Comprehensive support is provided, including flights (for international participants), local transport, accommodation, meals, and a modest allowance. A certificate validates completion.

The statement also clarified that, “Applicants must identify as female, be over 18, based in Africa/the Indian Ocean, have at least two years of relevant live event experience (e.g., stage management, technician roles), be available for the full programme dates, and be proficient in English. Priority may be given to South Africans where required.”

Interested local acts are encouraged to submit the online form (via MIAF website), including a CV with references and a 2-minute video introducing yourself and outlining your motivation, by the 22 September deadline. Email applications are not accepted.

This transformative initiative is supported by the Institut Français, French Development Agency (Access Culture), Women In Live Music, Siemens Stiftung, and Goethe-Institut.
