Middle East play set for Bulawayo

This play is inspired by the uprisings that recently rocked the Middle East and North Africa.
In an interview, Kumbota said he was back in Zimbabwe to work on his play that would be ready in February.
“I was in South Africa and I am back home to work on my play called The Burrow.
“This film is meant to educate people on different factors that may have triggered these uprisings and their effects on different societies,” he said.
Kumbota said he would be working with Styx Mhlanga, as the director of the play, as he had a lot of depth on such plays.
“I might have done this play back in South Africa, but I wanted Mhlanga to be the director of the play.
“Mhlanga has made some important contributions towards the success of this play and we hope it will be shown in different theatre plays next month,” he said.
Kumbota said the play would be staged by two characters that would be supported by music and videos on the uprisings.
“In this play we want to try and analyse if the uprisings were being influenced by the western ideologies or it was just a change of ideologies in the Arab states,” he said.
Kumbota said they were already working with a professional multimedia company that has promised to provide video and audio material on the uprisings.
“We want to analyse the contributions that were played by the natural resources that are found in the Middle East,” he said.
Kumbota said the play would be showcased in Bulawayo before it could be taken to other cities in Zimbabwe.
“We want to encourage people in Zimbabwe to shun violence as we are approaching elections.
“This can only be achieved by showcasing this play and I know that a lot of people out there are going to enjoy it,” he said.
