DESPITE watching his charges cruise to a 6-0 whitewash series win against Namibia Under-19, Young Lady Chevrons coach, Trevor Garwe, believes that there is still a lot of work which needs to be done in the middle order of the team’s batting line-up.
Garwe revealed that with the opening partnership of Beloved Biza and Kelis Ndlovhu has been outstanding during the series .
His main worry is the middle order.
“The tour to Namibia was really good for us because we got tested in different areas, especially in our batting.
“We are really happy with the batting, especially the top four but going forward we need to work more on the middle order batting and add more to whatever we would have got from our opening order,” said Garwe.
Apart from the batting challenges in the middle order, Garwe revealed that his team needs to work the fielding aspects, revealing that he was happy with how the team bowled.
“Moving forward, we now know areas we need to work on, and there is a lot of work to be done with our batters because that is an area we need to improve our bowling.
“It was impressive in all the games.
“We are not really worried about bowling but fielding is something we need to polish up as we dropped a lot of catches and we missed a lot of run out opportunities and I think this is an area where we need to improve.”
The six match series was part of the Zimbabwe Under-19 preparatory matches for next year’s Under-19 ICC T20 World Cup.
“These games were really good for us because you get to be tested by a different opposition and international side so it was something good to test our ladies.
“And, going forward, we need to organise two or more tours with stronger sides and also give another dimension on what needs to be done before the World Cup,” said Garwe.
