THEY call him ‘Speedy’ and with his pace, Davison Marowa, has proved to former champions FC Platinum that their off-season transaction was worth every cent.
The Zvishavane miners have not lost a match this month while, in their winning streak, it has either been a Marowa goal or an assist.
Norman Mapeza’s men sit at the top of the log standings with 34 points with six wins in their last seven outings.
Marowa has become a cult hero in Zvishavane.
With his speed, Marowa whom many doubted when he joined the miners’ camp, has risen to be a vital cog in Mapeza’s team.
He has been involved in all their 16 games.
“My biggest fear was that I might not live up to the coach’s expectations and, as a result, fail to get game time, this kept playing in my mind,” he said.
“I then told myself that I would just go and give it a try, you know, coming from a lower-ranked team, there is pressure and you have to up your game.
“It is every player’s dream to play for such a team so, sometimes, you plan and, for some of us, the opportunity came early, hence the fear.”
The silky winger joined FC Platinum on a two-year contract from Herentals, at the start of the season.
“I think I have adjusted well, thanks to the team and the love they have as a unit because, even on my first day, they treated me like I had been here for long,” he said.
“I recall putting on the training kit for the first time, it felt like a dream, let alone going on to get the number 10.
“However, each time the thought of games coming week-in-week out came to my mind, I would feel the pressure but I told myself that when I step onto the pitch, I had to give it my best.
“I am happy that life is going on well here, I have learnt a lot under my new coach and the way he believes in his team pushes us to work hard.”
