A 45-YEAR-OLD woman from Mkomba Village under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge was injured after being attacked by a buffalo while working in her field in the Middle Sabi area.
The incident occurred on Sunday 11 at around 9am at Chibuwe Block D Irrigation Scheme.
The victim, Ms Rosemary Tenisi, was carrying out farming activities when a buffalo charged at her from a direction adjacent to the Save Conservancy.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and further stated that Ms Tenisi screamed for help, alerting a fellow villager, Mr Christopher Mudaira who was working in a nearby field. She attempted to flee, but the buffalo pursued her until she fell to the ground.
The buffalo gored her with its horns on the head and back before fleeing to an unknown direction.
Ms Tenisi was rushed to Chibuwe Clinic, where she is receiving treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The matter was reported to ZRP Chibuwe Police Post, which in turn alerted the Save Conservancy.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has since been notified and efforts are underway to track the animal.
Police have urged communities living near wildlife areas to exercise caution and avoid working alone in fields close to conservancies, particularly during early morning hours when wild animals are more active.
