MIDLANDS Pool enthusiasts are set for a fun-filled weekend with the Carling Black Label tournament billed for Mboma Bar in Gweru’s Mkoba 14 suburb.
The two-day tournament starts on Saturday and is expected to attract a total number of 56 players – 50 in the men’s category and six in the women’s from the province.
The players will battle it out in a knockout format of three trays per game in which five players from the men’s and two from the women’s will qualify for the National Carling Black Label tournament.
Expected to participate in the tournament are some of Gweru’s best players Julius Hwere and Alfred Madhoha in the men’s section and Auxilia Manyengi, Thomas Nyengeterayi and Miriam Nyamakoba in the ladies’.
Zimbabwe Pool Association president Trust Chivadza said preparations had gone well for the event.
“All the necessary preparations have been made and we are now ready to roll,” he said.
Chivadza said apart from the 56 players there will be another set of players that will be added.
“The tournament is not only restricted to the official 56 players but there will be other players from the region that will participate in the event. I am yet to confirm the number with the organisers,” he said.
Chivadza said they chose Mkoba 14 as the venue for the event to take the game to a place where there are more pool fanatics.
“We chose Mkoba 14 as the most appropriate venue because we saw it fit to take the tournament to where there are more people who love to watch and play the game,” he said.
