Midlands’ new Karate chapter

ANDRIANA Pearros and Chipo Kamoto were crowned champions at the inaugural Midlands Karate Championships at Queens Sports Club in Kwekwe last Saturday.

Pearros was outstanding in the boys under, winning a gold medal while Kamoto also did well in the age section.

The tournament saw karatekas taking part from as young as three years old, and the organiser of the event Shepard Ziwira was happy with the response from athletes and sponsors.

“The tournament went on well as planned and it was a learning curve for us and I hope it will be an annual event. The turnout was good and we had several categories starting from the small age of three-year-olds up to the open section.

“We are grateful to the sponsors who helped in making sure that the tournament went on well. We did not have any disturbing incidents and I am very happy for that,” said Ziwira.

In the three and four years’ category, David Ncube and Trevor “Energy Ncube lit up the stage.

In the boys four to five years Lessley Chidavarume got the better of Tinashe Dapira and Mukudzei Mapenduka.

Mikayla Tapfuma and Letwin Ncube dominated in the seven year-old girls’ category.

Aiden Ziwira, Ashleigh Madekubve, Isabela Mangezi, Tawana Dapira, Tinotenda Gambiza, Ethan Mapfumo, Jacob Ncube, Ryan Mugaragumbo, Nyasha Dube, Kimberly frank, Tinaye Kandela, Elton Mzowa and Tadiwa Ncube all clinched gold medals in their respective junior categories.

There was also joy for Zoe Hewitt, Tanatswa Pedzera, Ruvarashe Ncube, Felistas Chifamba, Tanatswa Chipoyera and Tawanda Kotsi who all struck gold medals in the cadets categories.

Craig Mavunduse and Trinity Kotsi were victorious in their respective categories.
