Midlands welcomes restoration of DCCs

Patrick Chitumba Midlands Bureau Chief
ZANU-PF Midlands Province has welcomed a resolution passed by the Central Committee at the weekend to restore the District Coordinating Committee (DCC) as an organ of the ruling party. The DCCs where disbanded by the ruling party in 2012, allegedly because they sowed division in the party. Back then powerful Zanu-PF members were allegedly manipulating the DCCs, causing unnecessary divisions and tension.

“The resolution also was that some years ago we abolished the district coordinating committees, we have made a resolution today that this should be restored as an organ of our constitution,” reads a statement by Zanu-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Patrick Chinamasa. Zanu-PF Midlands province spokesperson Cde Cornelius Mupereri said they were happy with the DCC resolution.

He said DCCs were created to coordinate work to ease management of party structures. Cde Mupereri said provincial structures were now expected to play a pivotal role in the coordination of party activities.

“It was unfortunate that the DCCs were disbanded for siring divisions when, in fact, they were the link between the cell and the province. You find that we start from the cells to the district, the province and the national. So when they were disbanded it meant there was a void in terms of doing party business and hence the confusion which saw the province running the affairs of the districts.

“We therefore welcome this resolution by the Central Committee over the weekend,” said Cde Mupereri. The announcement attracted applause from Central Committee members.
