A 45-YEAR-OLD man from Mbundane, Paul Makomva, was caught red-handed in a suspicious midnight mission that has left Cowdray Park residents shaken and the streets buzzing!
In the early hours of May 16 a terrified 50-year-old woman was jolted from her sleep by strange voices outside her house. Fearing the worst, she dialled the police, and that’s when the real action began.
Police officers, teamed up with members of the local Neighborhood Watch Committee, swooped in and found Makomva’s Toyota Spacio (AFY 3804) parked suspiciously next to the woman’s home.
When grilled, Makomva spun a dodgy tale, claiming he had been hired at Renkini Bus Terminus by two unknown men to “transport bags from Cowdray Park.” But the so-called clients had conveniently vanished into thin air upon spotting the cops.
A quick search of the vehicle told a different story. Officers recovered a deadly Okapi knife and a pair of catapults, leading to Makomva’s immediate arrest for possession of a specified weapon.
“It’s highly suspicious,” said a source close to the investigation. “What kind of ‘transport job’ needs catapults and a knife at 2AM?”
Police confirmed Makomva is now in custody and assisting with investigations, while the hunt for his mysterious accomplices continues.
Meanwhile, residents have hailed the quick police reaction, but many are on edge.
“What if the woman hadn’t called the police? What were they really up to?” questioned a Cowdray Park resident.
Police are urging residents to remain alert, report any suspicious activity, and avoid late-night movements, especially with strangers claiming to offer transport.
This was no ordinary lift. This was a ride straight into danger.
