THE Mighty Warriors are now certain they will face Malawi in the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualifiers, provided they get past Angola in the first round.
This comes after Congo who were meant to face Malawi pulled out of the tournament, citing a lack of competition and preparation. The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) confirmed the latest development.
“The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) wishes to inform the public that the Congolese Football Federation has officially withdrawn its Women’s National Team from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualifiers due to a lack of competition and preparation.”
Mighty Warriors head coach Sithethelelwe “ Kwinji 15” Sibanda.
The Mighty Warriors are in camp preparing for their two-legged matches against Angola on February 20th and 27th.
The first leg will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, on February 20th, with the return leg a week later in Luanda, Angola.
Coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda has made her mission clear: the team must qualify, compete, and conquer.
“Qualification is our main objective, but it all starts with our first encounter against Angola. If we get past them, the off-season will be over, and we will be in even better condition for the next set of qualifiers. Our preparations have gone well and we are focusing on our attack which has let us down of late,” said Sibanda.
The Mighty Warriors squad boasts several standout players, including Israel-based striker Ruvimbo Mucherera (Maccabi Hadera WFC), Yolanda Kwarai (Darwin Olympics Sporting Club, Australia), and Tanzania’s Yanga Women’s team star, Danai Bhobho.
