MIGHTY Warriors captain Felistas Muzongondi says they are geared up to take on neighbours South Africa in an international friendly match tomorrow as part of the preparations for the Olympic Games.
The teams, which will represent the continent at this year’s Games to be held in Brazil, will clash at Makhulong in Tembisa, Johannesburg. The Mighty Warriors left the country yesterday morning for South Africa aboard an Air Zimbabwe plane.
“All has been well in camp and everyone is prepared for the match against South Africa. We all know that it’s part of our preparations for the Rio Games. So I think as of now we will start with South Africa as part of the preparations and I think it will help us in terms of match fitness.
“South Africa are a good team, very competitive and we are both going to Rio. So we don’t have to underrate them, we just have to be confident and put more effort to be successful,” said Muzongondi.
Zimbabwe are in Group F together with two-time World Cup champions Germany, Canada and Australia. And Muzongondi believes the game against Banyana Banyana will go a long way in their build-up to the Games.
“We are going there to compete because we all know we have got Australia, Germany and Canada in our group and these are the big teams. But our main aim there is to compete with them. So this is a build-up to see where we will be when we go to Rio.
“What I can say is we keep encouraging each other for us to be able to achieve more,” said Muzongondi.
South Africa are in Group E with Brazil, China and Sweden.
Mighty Warriors’ coach, Shadreck Mlauzi said they want to continue with their good run and are going to treat the match just like any other game they have played before.
