Mighty Warriors player joins Nigerian team

MIGHTY Warriors and Correctional Queens forward Berita Kabwe has joined Nigerian women’s football league champions Rivera Angels.

The club is set to take part in the first edition of the CAF Champions League in Egypt later this year.

Kabwe was loaned to the club on a one-year deal by her Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services team.

Some scouts, who represent the interests of different clubs, first saw Kabwe during the COSAFA Championships at Barbourfields in 2017. They have been following her progress and finally made their move as the West African club prepare for the inaugural continental finals having won the sole ticket from their western region.

She becomes the second player inside a month from Correctional Queens to secure a move outside the country.

Goalkeeper Chido Dzingirai last month joined Zambian side Zambia Institute for Sustainable Development, on a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old Kabwe is sister to former Harare City and ZPC Kariba striker Protasho Kabwe.

Correctional Queens secretary-general Arthur Gorejena says they are excited with the development.

“As Correctional Queens we are excited as opportunities for our players to play football outside Zimbabwe continue to open up. Berita Kabwe will join Rivers Angels FC, for one-year loan. The club are champions in Nigeria and will play in the Champions League in Egypt in November therefore we could not resist such an offer for a team playing at that level,” said Gorejena.
Gorejena added that as a club, they are working on creating a number of synergies with some clubs and benefit from the partnership.

“We looking forward to build more such relationships with teams beyond Africa. In that regard we also looking at bringing in young talented players so that the gap we are creating can not affect us,  in the long run so going forward development is going to be key.

We also need to applaud the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services management for being supportive of the girl child in sport,” said Gorejena.
