DESPITE putting a stellar performance in the 2017 Cosafa Women Championship where they reached the final, the Mighty Warriors are still to get their full allowances for taking part in the competition.
The competition was played from 13 to 24 September in Bulawayo.
Players who spoke to this publication said they were dismayed by Zifa’s failure to honour their promises despite the fact that they did the nation proud.
They revealed they were only given $560 following protests they made after being told to leave camp with being paid any amount.
“There are various allowances that we were promised ranging from camping allowances, match fees and bonuses for each win. We had been hoping the dues would be given to us after the tournament but we protested when they told us to leave camp without being given any monies and that is when they paid us $560 each,” said one national women’s team player, who declined to be named for fear of reprisals.
Zimbabwe lost to South Africa 2-1 in the final that was played at Barbourfields Stadium.
Another player confirmed they are owed $600 adding they have not been able to engage Zifa over the amounts as there are no channels they can follow outside camps.
“We are frustrated because we keep on being promised things and amounts that we never receive no matter how good we represent the country. We just hope Zifa will change its ways soon,” she said.
The player said Zifa seemed not serious about putting the men and women’s game at par as their male counterparts seemed to be given better treatment when it came to payments.
Players that featured for the Mighty Warriors were given Kwese decoders for their efforts in coming second by Kwese Sports, which was the official broadcaster for the tournament.
Zifa communications manager, Xolisani Gwesela said he would have to verify with chief executive officer, Joseph Mamutse on the status of the payments.
