adminAS it is for many international acts in the world today, reggae music has been an inspiration for Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Miguel and rapper Flo Rida, who were headliners at the just-concluded Reggae Sumfest 2013. “Jamaican music has been an inspiration to us,” said Miguel during a question and answer session at the Iberostar Hotel in St James on Friday.
“When you talk about Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and Buju Banton, you are talking about some amazing acts and individuals that must be respected for their contribution to the music,” Miguel went on to say.
However, of all the Jamaican acts that he has interfaced with, the R&B crooner singles out the “Energy God” Elephant Man as the one he admires the most.
“Elephant Man is the one I admire the most, he is just fun, very straightforward,” Miguel offered.
Flo Rida’s dream is to do a collaboration with reggae crooner Beres Hammond, who he shared the stage with on Friday night, International Night 1.
“One of my biggest dreams would be to work with Beres Hammond,” he said.
“At the age of 15 years old, I use to be driving in my sister’s car, listening to his music, so it will be an honour to work with him tonight (Friday).”
Barrington Levy, Tarrus Riley, Iba Mahr, Chalice, Nature and Droop Lion also performed on Friday night. – Jamaican Gleaner.
