TWO top executives of leading athletic balls manufactures, Mikasa Corporation of Japan, are set to visit Zimbabwe next week for business related purposes.
Mikasa Corporation is a manufacturer of athletic balls like volleyball balls, basketballs, soccer balls, water polo balls and handballs, selling them universally.
They have been invited to Zimbabwe by former top middle-distance runner, Brain Sheriff, to have a first hand experience of the country which has been marred by negative reports over the years.
Sheriff, who works for Mikasa and is based in Hiroshima, Japan, said the company’s director Yuji Saeki and general manager Noriaki Hirata will arrive in Harare on Thursday next week for a three-day visit.
“They are coming to Zimbabwe because I have asked them to come and I have convinced them that it is a country that needs them. They are coming to hear from Zimbabwe, see from Zimbabweans and take note of what to do from the people of Zimbabwe.
“We promised the volleyball people two years ago that we will be coming to Zimbabwe directly. In fact, Mikasa are coming for the purpose of getting the Japan market opened for Zimbabwe,” Sheriff said from his base in Hiroshima.
The visit is also expected to demystify the two countries’ perception of each other’s business communities and open doors for more business ventures at various levels.
“This particular visit by Mikasa to Harare is not only for Mikasa’s interests but Mikasa is coming to inform Zimbabwe that corporate Japan has been out in the dark.
“We — Japan (Hiroshima) and I (myself who they also see as Zimbabwe) — have become friends.”
