MIKE’S MARE

MICHAEL CARRICK suffered his third loss in a row on Saturday, but it was also his NINTH successive game without a win as Manchester United manager.

It is the first time United have gone nine games without victory for nearly 40 YEARS, as the pressure piles on the ex-midfielder.

You have to trace all the way back to the beginning of September for United’s last win.

It was a 4-0 victory over European minnows Sabah in the Champions League.

And since then, it has been nothing short of a horror show.

The unwanted record-breaking run, which hasn’t been matched since 1988 under Sir Alex Ferguson, began at Old Trafford when they lost to ten-man Manchester City.

Next, they went 2-0 up against Brighton, only to lose 3-2 and crash out of the Carabao Cup —once again at the Theatre of Dreams.

Two Prem draws followed before a poor evening away at Atletico Madrid, in which they lost 2-0 with ten men.

Another draw away at Leeds, followed by a 4-1 battering at the hands of Cesc Fabregas’ Como came next, before the Red Devils shipped FIVE more goals against Bournemouth and finally Chelsea. Lisandro Martinez made headlines at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and was blanked by Carrick after conceding a penalty and receiving two yellow cards in the space of 82 seconds.

Carrick’s nine games from hell have seen United lose six, draw three, score six and concede 18 — therefore conceding an average of two per game.

He was given a lifeline this week as the Red Devils opted to stick with him, despite United’s horror form.

United sources said Carrick will have the opportunity to turn the situation around, despite eight games without a win and the club 16th in the table. But now that horrendous run has extended even further and off the back of three consecutive defeats, it’s difficult to see the United legend lasting much longer.—Sun.
