LONDON. – MAKE no mistake, Manchester United are on a collision course towards relegation.
And it doesn’t matter who the manager is.
It is fair to say it is unlikely to be Michael Carrick after Chelsea’s 2-0 victory made it NINE games without a win and four defeats from five.
United have failed to win any of their first seven away games in all competitions for the first time since, you guessed it, 1973-74 – when they were last relegated from the top division.
Handy defeats suffered by Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest kept United 17th and level on points with the Eagles.
Not since November 1986 have United been in the bottom three past August.
As each game passes, a new record is shattered and a new low hit, making the idea of relegation not to be scoffed at.
United, whose only league win this season came against newly-promoted Ipswich Town on August 30, have picked up just seven points from a possible 27.
That average of 0.77 points-per-game adds up to 29.3 points over the course of a 38-game season and no team has ever survived the drop with less than 30.
Maybe the players are panicking, too. – The Sun
