Mimosa Mining Company last week donated a fire truck valued at $220 000 to Gweru City Council.
Addressing a council fire tender programme, Midlands Minister of State Owen Ncube said the donation was timely and a generous gesture by Mimosa Mining Company.
“It is my pleasure and honour to join the special occasion, the official commissioning of the magnificent Howo Sino fire tender for Gweru City Council,” he said.
“This donation was made by one generous corporate, Mimosa Mining Company, under their health and safety motto which is ‘Zero Harm is Possible’.”
Minister Ncube said he was proud to celebrate the existence of good support by corporates like Mimosa Mining Company towards the council.
He said the council’s vision of providing safety had been boosted as they received a 5 000 litre fire truck, which is expected to strengthen the city’s civil protection activities and mitigate against the loss of human lives and property during fire disasters.
“We celebrate the existence of support by corporates in support of Government policy through council in fulfilling its responsibility of civil protection,” said Minister Ncube.
“Your vision has received a major boost today by the arrival from Mimosa Mining Company of a fire tender.”
Minister Ncube urged stakeholders and corporates to continue assisting the council as it still needs more fire trucks and ambulances to save lives during disasters.
He also applauded the good work, which was recently done by fire fighters as they managed to save a house, which was ablaze within ten minutes of arriving at the scene.
“I am happy to refer to the recent fire emergency call in Mkoba where you swiftly responded to the call and saved lives and property,” he said.
“Your reaction to emergency calls and emergences is good, and I encourage you to even do better. I appeal to corporates to continue donating towards the council since they are facing challenges as lifesaving vehicles are now old and broken down.”
